About me
Hi! My name is Lugh, and I recently graduated from the University of Cambridge with a high 2.1 in History. Before university, I attended a state grammar school in Halifax, West Yorkshire, achieving 3 A*s at A Level (in History, Psychology, and English Literature), an A in Geography at AS Level, and 7 As and 6 A*s (including English Language and Literature, Geography, History, Physics, and Music) at GCSE.
During my time at Cambridge, I received the scholars award for first class results in my first year. Aspiring to help those coming through the system after myself, I ran for and was elected Class Act Officer on my College Council, representing and advocating for the interests of underrepresented students in the College.
I have a range of tutoring experience. During my GCSEs, I taught a primary age pupil beginner piano. During my A Levels, I mentored a GCSE student at my school for English Literature, resulting in an improvement in her grades. In my first year of University, I privately tutored a student who was struggling across a range of subjects, helping him to find his own interest and motivation in subjects where the school had failed to do so.
Since graduating, I have tutored groups of 5 in a classroom of 30 for GCSE English Literature and Language, and triple sciences, for EdExcel and AQA examinations. This recent work has been some of the most rewarding, helping students from underserved communities unlock their own interest in a subject – my proudest moment came in helping a GCSE student to access a creative potential that had been overlooked by his school, encouraging him to write his first ever piece of creative writing, in preparation for his English Language exam.
As your tutor, I will bring a flexible teaching style based on assessing your student's need, encouraging them to find their own enthusiasm for the subjects that I love!
