About me

Hey there! My name is Swetha and I’m currently a postgraduate student at the University of Cambridge - just finished my MPhil in Medical Sciences and am starting my PhD in Pathology in Jan! I absolutely love what I do and I always credit my teachers/professors from the University of Edinburgh (where I did my undergrad), and the University of Cambridge for helping me find my passion and purpose in immunology! Having spent most my childhood in India, I grew to realise how incredibly important it is to have access to the right resources and teachers in order to make learning a meaningful experience. It’s also why I’ve spent a lot of my spare time through university helping students (especially international students who find it hard to navigate through education in the UK) find and sustain a holistic learning experience!

I do also have a non-profit of my own in India, supported by the Clinton Foundation (been a competitively chosen fellow of the Clinton Global Initiative since 2019), that focuses on educating underprivileged sections of the population around crucial health-related concepts and enable them seek appropriate, timely support. A more recent addition to our activities has involved educating kids with chronic illness in primary/secondary schools, and ensuring they don’t miss out on quality education. A large part of my role in the non-profit has been to collaboratively design education modules catering to the needs of distinct sections of the population. Trust me, nothing has made me feel more fulfilled that looking at the difference our educative resources/content have made to those in need!

As a scientist-in-training, I’m also a huge believer of communicating complex science to the general public, bridging the gap between academia and the common man. I was recently awarded a very prestigious public engagement fund by the University of Cambridge in support of my efforts in this front, and currently also co-lead a public engagement venture at my department which has grown to receive immense recognition from several scientific societies and charities across the globe!

So, in a nutshell, I love teaching and am a firm believer of the power a good teacher holds in guiding incredible transformation within their students! I also believe that the best lessons are those that are fun - not mundane with someone just running through an hour worth of content with students listening (hopefully not falling asleep!), and so I always make my lessons as interactive as possible! I also enjoy a good banter with my students during a break, learning their ambitions and passions better and understanding how I can support them best. Believe me, I do hold mysterious powers of making those afraid of science eventually fall in love with it - so choose wisely! Can’t wait to see you soon!
