About me

Hi! My name is Toby, and I’ve just graduated from Cambridge University with a First Class Degree in Classics and an additional year studying Management at the Cambridge Judge Business School. I have spent three months teaching full-time, and have experience instructing on subjects as varied as public speaking and rowing.

I have a strong academic record and won a College Scholarship, Foundress Scholarship, and Foundation Prize from Pembroke College, Cambridge for exceptional examination results, as well as the Purvis Prize for being the strongest academic performer at my school. I have learned six languages to varying degrees of proficiency, and was offered a place on the highly competitive Management Tripos at the Cambridge Judge Business School based on my ability to combine these skills with mathematical prowess.

My primary extracurricular interests lie in public speaking and performance. I was a two-time finalist and the 2021 winner of the Riley Declamation Prize (Pembroke College’s annual public speaking competition). I also co-founded Pembroke’s public speaking society (“The Pembroke Prattlers”), and was the first President to organize, introduce, and compère Pembroke’s newest public speaking contest – “The Michael Horowitz KC Prize”. I won the district award for Best Presentation in the Young Enterprise exhibition series, have acted in several plays, and achieved an ATCL Performance Diploma from Trinity College, London for Clarinet playing. I am also a keen sportsman, and at Cambridge I captained the college rowing and hockey teams, as well as playing squash, tennis, and cricket.

I have extensive teaching experience, including a three-month stint as a full-time English teacher in Nepal. I have taught rowing for three years, give advice on public speaking to students of Pembroke College, Cambridge, taught debating at my school, and work for two tutoring companies. I proofread for a popular set of Latin and Greek curriculum-based textbooks, and pride myself on an ability to pick out details while keeping sight of the bigger picture.
