About me
Hi, I'm Eva! I am a graduate from the University of Oxford with a high 2:1 in English Language and Literature, and alongside my course I have tutored a number of students in Language and Literature. I also achieved 3 As at A Level in English Literature, Psychology and History as well as 5 A*s and 7 As at GCSE, including an A* in English Literature. I spent the year after my undergraduate teaching full time: I love helping students utilise new critical perspectives because I remember how exciting it was for me when I first learnt to do so.
In total I have completed approximately 340 hours of tutoring, with students ranging from 6-23 years old and worked with different exam boards such as Cambridge International, AQA, SQA, Edexcel, SATs and OCR. Subjects I have taught include English Literature GCSE, IB and A Level tutoring, Cambridge IGCSE EFL training, Reading Comprehension, EFL Oral practice, coursework assistance and university admission preparation.
My experience preparing students for several different exam boards through a variety of teaching formats means I am proficient at adapting between different critical focuses for lessons as well as teaching children time management. Developing creativity and leadership skills are also key elements of my English tutoring, for example through group projects, whilst my own work as a creative writer (I have just completed a Screenwriting MA at the University of Manchester) has further equipped me to foster this skill in students. Likewise, my involvement in St Hilda’s Drama Society, where I have directed several plays, helps with this. I also like to swim, cook and volunteer for an art magazine in my free time.
I have experience tutoring students of a variety of ages, so I am able to break critical focuses down to the basics or into smaller building blocks, in order to suit the student's level of ability. I aim to produce activities that are both clear, critical when for many of my students English is a second language, and engaging, to combat any sense of distance that might be created by the lessons’ online format. This is reflected in my success stories, including tutoring a student for Language IGCSE who was struggling with the subject and a lack of confidence, and helping him to reach his full potential of an A grade. I achieved this through my combination of teaching styles. Tailoring my lesson approach in order to foster a genuine connection with texts, and hands-on learning/interactive tasks so that I can monitor student's exact level of understanding and focus in on weaker areas.
Further, I have work experience as an assistant teacher at a primary school teaching numeracy, with class sizes of 30, and as a school tour leader. Through this I have become skilled in mediating the needs and behaviour of multiple children at once. My experiences of tutoring have all reinforced the importance of soft skills for me, as well as the importance of confidence and self-esteem. I am committed to providing the best teaching possible on how to develop these skills and would love to help your child reach their full potential!
